This flannel rag quilt was another combined effort with my mother-in-law Kathy. While my family was home for Christmas, we decided to test the flannel quilt idea using her embroidery machines to do the quilting motif. We were thrilled to learn that we could hoop 2 pieces of flannel and embroider a stippling motif without having to use any interfacing or stablizers. 8 inch squares also worked well in her hoops, so we could cut them to the right size initially. We purchased a design from Embroidery Library, which has a nice selection of stippling designs for the purpose of quilting. We used yellow thread on half of the white squares, and green on the other half. We used white thread for the yellow and green flannels: |

We were tickled with how quickly and easily we were able to accomplish the quilting. I pieced and snipped it over the next day, so we were able to see the finished product very quickly. There was an upcoming baby shower at my home congregation, so we decided to give it as a joint gift to Baby Luchinksi. |
